Story
Three vastly different Filipino-Canadian sisters accidentally ruin their younger brother’s wedding.
Their attempts to discreetly fix the situation is complicated by one big obstacle: their own family.
This 20-minute short film follows the antics of the three sisters - Mariah, Marissa, and Maribel - who have always had a complicated love-hate relationship due to their wildly different personalities.
Despite their differences, the sisters do have one thing in common: their mother loves their youngest brother and groom, Jonathan, more than any of them.
Worst of all, their mother had gifted a valuable diamond necklace heirloom to their new sister-in-law.
During a sisters-only rant in the women’s bathroom, Mariah reveals she had stolen the necklace and amidst a sibling fight, they accidentally break it.
What follows is a comedy-of-errors as the sisters desperately try to make things right.
Amidst a torrent of colourful Filipino family members, crazy wedding shenanigans and a lot of alcohol, things fall apart when the three sisters, completely drunk, throw an embarrassing roast of Jonathan during the wedding toast.
Everyone is horrified. Humiliated, the sisters retreat in their shared shame.
The wedding goes on and the dance floor is opened.
Nursing their hangovers, the sisters are surprised when their youngest brother shows up and, instead of asking for an apology, starts pushing his three ates (older sisters) to dance.
Hesitant at first, the sisters find it hard to resist Jonathan’s clumsy dance moves and
slowly they join him.
Like most Asian families, the apology is unspoken- covered instead by a joyous celebration of life on the dance floor, surrounded by family and serenaded by the corniest of Filipino Karaoke.
